This framed artwork features a famous 18th-century botanical engraving titled "August" from the celebrated series "Twelve Months of Flowers".
The Artist: Created by Robert Furber, a prominent British nurseryman and floriculturist based in Kensington.
Origin & Date: Originally published in 1730. Furber collaborated with Flemish painter Pieter Casteels and English engraver Henry Fletcher to bring the collection to life.
The Concept: The series served as an innovative seed and plant catalog. It illustrated dazzling floral arrangements of over 400 species grouped strictly by the month in which they bloom.
Key Features: The August plate prominently showcases a tall, textured golden-orange flower head on the left side alongside a variety of other summer blooms arranged neatly inside an ornate urn. The numbers correspond to a detailed index list of plant names printed along the bottom edge of the work.
