This is a collection of Russian Matryoshka nesting doll, a traditional collectible toy also known as a stacking or babushka doll.
These wooden dolls of decreasing size are placed one inside another.
They are a quintessential representation of traditional Russian peasant life and are associated with family and fertility.
The dolls are often hand-painted in various folk art styles, featuring a multi color schemes with floral motifs.
The name "Matryoshka" means "little mother" and was one of the most common female names among the Russian peasantry.
